A business cannot start without the guidance of a manager and the effort and work provided by its employees. Employees are the life blood of a business. The employees produce goods, administer and distribute them to the public, organize inventory, publicize releases, sell these goods, transport them to far markets, maintain machinery and the office, repair what needs to be repaired and etcetera.

They also employ and accept people from the outside, advertise openings for positions in the company, conduct interviews and determine those are capable and those who aren’t. They provide the training needed for new employees and act as the big brothers and sisters for the newbies, explaining what the newbies do not understand. They also terminate employees just like that, and that is when the time this delicate relationship ends.

The relationship between employees and employers have changed over the years. Once there was an insurmountable wall between the two, where the employers had complete power over the employee, and the employees were peons. Few rights existed to protect the common employee and abuse was rampant. This was where unions where formed.

Unions were created by employees for employees to protest the abuses and to establish their rights against unfair work practices and for the worker’s welfare. By the early 19th century, the NLRA or the National Labor Relations Act called for fair wages and safe workplaces. This was the start of the creation of new laws that governed and prioritized employee safety and welfare.

Today, employees are now enjoying the protection of these laws, which were once unavailable to people at that time. Most of these laws do not stand alone now, and are part of the common laws that protect the workers. Because of these changes, employers who were once abusive and power hungry have been curbed. Employees were able to have rights and were able to seek compensation for any wrong thing done towards them.
